Leslie Winner, Executive Director of the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation and former North Carolina State Senator, talks about her association with Chancellor James H. Woodward during her tenure in the North Carolina Senate from 1993-1998. She notes how Chancellor Woodward was able to convince her to support the addition of doctoral programs at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte--something she admits she was initially skeptical about. Ms. Winner talks about how important Chancellor Woodward was to UNC Charlotte at the time of his tenure, in terms of having the vision and ability to move the university in the direction where it needed to go. She concludes with anecdotal stories about Chancellor Woodward and his greatest strengths as the leader of UNC Charlotte.
