Linda Lawyer was a 71-year-old woman at the time of the interview, which took place in her home in the Overlook neighborhood in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1947. Mrs. Lawyer graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh in 1977. She was employed at Duke Energy as a computer programmer, systems analyst, and requirements analyst.

In 1982, Linda Lawyer and her partner moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. In this third of several interviews, Mrs. Lawyer speaks in-depth about her LGBTQ community activism in Charlotte that began in the 1980s and continued in 2019. As a prominent gay activist in Charlotte, Mrs. Lawyer discusses the necessity of lesbian-centered groups and spaces to combat lesbian isolation and marginalization. While Mrs. Lawyer reflects on her work with many LGBTQ organizations, her work with the Gay and Lesbian Switchboard of Charlotte, and One Voice Chorus illustrates how lesbians and gay men were able to work together to build a united community. As in previous interviews, Mrs. Lawyer discusses in-depth her local work with Charlotte LGBTQ activists Don King (Donaldson Wells King), Angie Wheeler, and Jim Yarbrough.
