In this interview, Beth Rugg, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Client Engagement at UNC Charlotte, shares her personal experiences and thoughts related to the April 30, 2019 shootings on campus. Ms. Rugg discusses the experience of working in the Kennedy Building during the shooting and what it was like for her and her staff to return to work in that space in the days and weeks that followed. She also discusses her interactions with police officers on April 30, her movements on campus in the immediate minutes and hours after the event, and assisting students who had been present in the classroom at the time of the shooting. Ms. Rugg reflects on supervising employees who have recently experienced a tragedy, the Chancellor's leadership during this time, and her feelings on how the incident affected her personally and the campus community as a whole. She briefly mentions various projects that her team worked on related to this event, including evaluating how the phone systems functioned during the campus lockdown.
