As the development of wireless communication increases, the current transceiver architecturesalso needs to be evolving along with it. This results in specifications likehigh linearity, low noise figure, and rejection of spurious signals. As devices becomingmore and more compact there is a need for high integration density by miniaturizationof components, with multiple band operation. All these requirements translatethe need to miniaturize bandstop filters which also have a multiband response andsuppress higher order harmonics.This document shows a novel concept of using the Defected structures on signal linesto provide a solution for above-mentioned challenges. These structures are similarto Defected ground structures (DGS), but they are etched on the signal line. Since1980‘s, Defected ground structures were being used to get compact size, suppressionof harmonics and arbitrary stopband. These structures were well analyzed and haveestablished the equivalent model. In order to develop this theory, the frequency characteristicsof the defected signal line structure were compared to DGS, as well as themethod for parameter extraction. Analysis has shown that evaluation and parameterextraction of defected signal line structure is similar to DGS. A novel G-shapedthe structure was also introduced and evaluated to get higher inductance and capacitancein a smaller area. In the end, these defected signal line structures (DSS) were integratedwith single section Wilkinson power divider to achieve bandstop filtering andmultiband response. The impact on resonance frequency by changing the dimensionswere also examined for tuning the desired frequency response. These structures weresimulated in HFSS and fabricated on FR4 board.
