Harvey Gantt delivers a campaign speech at the Halifax courthouse. Gantt remarks that in Halifax County, people have experienced plant closure and higher unemployment. He says that residents there care about education, job security, job training, senior citizens, and Medicare and Social Security. Gantt expresses support for portable pensions, equal pay for equal work, minimum wage, education to stay competitve internationally, Head Start, and tax deductions for college. He says that his opponent, Jesse Helms, is against federal support of education, Social Security, and Medicare. Gantt tells the crowd that citizens need to remember that they have the power, but they have to participate.
