UNC Show--Interviews (Beta) Dr. Sandra Govan--McNair Scholars Program (#4)
An interview with Dr. Sandra Govan, associate professor of English at UNC Charlotte, for the UNC Show about the McNair Scholars program. Dr. Govan gives an overview of the federally-funded scholarship program, which provides scholarships for first generation and underrepresented students, and how it is run at UNC Charlotte. At UNC Charlotte, it is largely a summer program that is focuses on research and preparing students for a graduate program, and the program accepts students from Johnson C. Smith and UNC Charlotte.
UNC Show--Interviews (Beta) Keith Wassum--Barnhardt Student Activities Center (#1)
An interview with Keith Wassum, the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Life and Facilities at UNC Charlotte, and tour of the Barnhardt Student Activities Center. Mr. Wassum walks through and describes different areas of the Student Activities Center (SAC), including the weight room and fitness facilities, basketball arena, indoor track, food court, and game center. He describes how after the center was built, UNC Charlotte could finally have commencement on campus again and host large basketball games and other events. Visitors to the center are shown in the recording using gym equipment and dining in the food court.
UNC Show--Interviews (Beta)--Denise Trauth, Provost
An interview with Denise Trauth, Interim Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. She is responsible for all academic programs, six colleges, and academic support services. Dr. Trauth discusses how UNC Charlotte is an exciting place to work because it is growing in size and adding new programs, including PhD programs. She describes how UNC Charlotte began offering its first three PhD programs in 1994 and is working on implementing two more, including a program in information technology. Dr. Trauth also described new graduate programs in biology, information science, and pre-K education. She discusses how UNC Charlotte offers high quality programs that are competitive across the country, hires talented faculty, and provides competitive internships and externships for students. Dr. Trauth also talks about the strong support that UNC Charlotte has always had from the Charlotte community, and how UNC Charlote will be North Carolina's next great university.
UNC Show--Interviews (Beta) Rhonda Watlington--Barnhardt Student Activities Center (#2)
At 1:40, the interview with Rhonda Watlington, Assistant Director, Event Services Manager at UNC Charlotte, begins in the catering kitchen in the Barnhardt Student Activities Center (SAC). She discusses catering services for different kind of events and conferences on campus. The video also features other kitchen staff and a catering buffet setup for a conference. At around 13:40, Ms. Watlington describes the interior design, technology, and amenities in the SAC. At around 18:45, Ms. Watlington discusses the Game Room on the second level of the SAC, which overlooks the food court. The cameraperson records video of students playing arcade games, foosball and billiards.

Answers include: urban city experience; close to home; liked the Communications department; have a nursing program; likes Charlotte; Charlotte is a growing city with music and arts; the weather/climate; diverse student body; growing university; friends and family at the university; friendly atmosphere; and the business program.
UNC Show--Interviews (Beta) Distant Learning (#2)
An interview with Dr. William E. Laukaitis, Instructional Production Coordinator and Video Manager at UNC Charlotte, and recording of the video studio and distance learning programs. Dr. Laukaitis describes the two telecommunications networks that UNC Charlotte is a member of and how they contribute to distance learning programming. The first went online in 1985, and later expanded to 18 universities in the UNC system. The other program is the NC Information Highway. It has 70 educational sites in NC, including high schools and community colleges. These programs allow UNC Charlotte to provide courses to people throughout the state who don't have access to the physical campus. The interview ends at about 7:40, then the camera crew records video of employees in the studio and of distance learning programming, including a live class with distance learning technology in the classroom.

UNC Show--Interviews (Beta) Alumni 1--Ellison Clary
A brief interview with Ellison Clary, Senior Vice President at NationsBank. He records multiple variations of the same topics. Mr. Clary says that when he began attending Charlotte College in 1963, it was a smaller school with students from working class backgrounds like himself. He credits Bonnie Cone for founding the college and states that he owes his success to UNC Charlotte.

Interviews with six alumni from UNC Charlotte who graduated between the 1970s-1990s. One interviewee played on the UNC Charlotte men's basketball team and another played tennis. The interviewees graduated with degrees in business, nursing, political science, religious studies, digital communication and design, and counseling. Topics include the careers of the interviewees, their typical days at work, and how their education prepared them for their careers.

He describes how UNC Charlotte is looking toward future growth when planning new academic programs and campus construction projects. Other topics include diversity of UNC Charlotte's students, the academic profile of a typical UNC Charlotte student, and the campus's impact on the surrounding community.

An interview with Jim Woodward, Chancellor of UNC Charlotte. He discusses the need for UNC Charlotte to build relationships with the North Carolina legislature and to listen to what their desires are for a state university. He talks about the Master Plan, which outlines campus development for the coming years, and how it relates to planning and growth in academic programs on campus. Other topics include the Southern Piedmont Legislative Caucus; plans for UNC Charlotte to become the state's next research university; the university's Board of Trustees; the quality of the university's undergraduate education programs, faculty, staff, and students; and the Charlotte community.

An interview with Melvin Watkins, head basketball coach at UNC Charlotte. He was a student at UNC Charlotte in the 1970s, and playing basketball as a student, then coming back to be head coach is very unique. He says that his education prepared him for his career, but a large part of preparation for his career came from the community and the people he interacted with during his college experience. He describes how he wants his players to be well rounded individuals, and is excited to see freshmen develop skills as they continue through college. Goals for the men's basketball team going forward are to join the list of top 20 teams in the country and continue to compete at the highest level.

Class one is about juvenile delinquency and features a police officer guest speaker, who talks about criminal justice, racial disparity in incarceration, and the effects of lack of resources on criminal justice. Class two starts at 15:05. It is a political science class where the professor asks students about current international news and engages them in discussion. Class three begins at 24:10, and is a computer science lab about circuitry.
