Frances Curry Kerr oral history interview, 2016 December 16
Description
In this interview, Frances C. Kerr recounts her involvement in the process by which Myers Park Baptist Church adopted an LGBTQ affirming policy in 2002, her reasons for wanting to make this policy happen, and how this has changed her life as a church member, mother, and grandmother of a lesbian. Motivated by her daughter's coming out as lesbian in the 1990s, Mrs. Kerr and her husband George Kerr worked for six years trying to make worship welcoming for LGBTQ people at Myers Park Baptist Church. The adoption of the Church's LGBTQ affirming policy in 2002 led to the expulsion of the congregation from the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina in 2007.
