Lynnsy Logue oral history interview 2, 2018 January 11
Description
In this second interview with Lynnsy Logue, she discusses her experience living in both Charlotte and New York City as a lesbian and reflects on the LGBTQ community as a whole. She relates what the gay bar scene was like in Charlotte around the 1950s to 1960s and notes that lesbians did not have specific bars. Ms. Logue attributes this to a disinterest in bars among women in comparison to men. She recollects her time living in New York City just two weeks after the Stonewall Riots of 1969. Other topics include "Homecoming Queens," an art exhibit which Ms. Logue and another Charlotte artist, Rachel Watkins, organized that was exhibited across all of Charlotte in parks and public spaces, and "Take Back the Night," an event supporting female survivors of sexual abuse. She concludes the interview with her thoughts about Queer life in 2018, emphasizing that now is the time for gay men to stand up for lesbian women and help get the Equal Rights Amendment passed.
