Mildred Little Bauguess discusses her basketball career at Claremont High School in Claremont, North Carolina and playing semi-professionally on the Hanes Hosiery Women's Basketball team during the 1940s and 1950s. She recalls the accolades, tournament wins, and the opportunities basketball afforded her. She discusses the central role high school basketball played in Claremont's small-town atmosphere. Ms. Bauguess shares her experiences as a player on the exclusive Hanes Hosiery Mill women's team, which traveled throughout the country playing both men's and women's teams. She discusses the changes women's basketball underwent as it adopted "boys' rules" of play. Once having the opportunity to play on the US Olympic women's basketball team, Ms. Bauguess talks about making the decision to forgo the tournament.

Interviewee Biography: Mildred Little Bauguess was a 60-year-old woman at the time of interview, which took place in her home in Claremont, North Carolina. She was born in Catawba County, North Carolina in 1932. She was employed at Hanes Hosiery and played on the Hanes Hosiery Basketball Team, and later worked for Westinghouse.
