Thomas Martin and Gloria Martin talk about Mr. Martin's time coaching basketball and football at West Charlotte High School in Charlotte, North Carolina while it was an all-Black school during segregation. Topics discussed include the importance of team sports for the development of children, Mr. Martin's influence on his students' lives, and how Mr. Martin advocated for equipment and resources for the school's sports programs. Mr. Martin also recounts attending Johnson C. Smith University and his experiences playing sports there and helping to open a local YMCA branch.
